European Creative Cluster Lab visits Media Evolution

10 OCTOBER 2012

On October 2nd a delegation of the Cluster Lab visited the Media Evolution City in Malmö to discuss current challenges of cluster initiatives and cluster manager in creative industries.

ECCL visits Media Evolution October 2, 2012Starting in March 2012 Media Evolution – the cluster initiative behind Media Evolution City – has launched this incubator with more than 400 work places. Around 100 of these are mediated directly by Media Evolution to start ups and entrepreneurs dealing with media in the wider terms. As CEO and cluster manager of Media Evolution Christer Månsson’s main challenge and current hot topic is to find new ways and approaches of bringing these innovative businesses and further cluster members together with the more traditional industries.

According to Christer, innovative media companies could support traditional businesses a lot in new ways of doing business, as well as new approaches to value chains and business models. Unfortunately, they often do not speak the same language. As a result traditional companies tend to consult with established and rather bigger core IT companies or consultancies when planning to implement new technology or service innovation. And that may not always be the best choice. Thus cluster managers in creative clusters need not only to take the role of a facilitator but also of a translator to bring creative and traditional companies together.

The European Cluster Lab will closely follow Media Evolutions development and is prepared to test and share their ideas with other European creative cluster managers within the ECCL network.
