PLP Meeting report: ECIA in Nantes

28 APRIL 2014

At the beginning of April the ECIA PLP consortium took place in Nantes, partially during the Les Ateliers event. Read the report by Laura Desille.

ECIA PLP Nantes 03-04-14During three days we discussed the final report. The thematic reports on ‘Access to finance’, ‘Cluster excellence’, ‘Innovation vouchers’, ‘Demand driven Innovation’, ‘Cross innovation’ and ‘Internationalization’ were discussed during meetings and workshops.

Every consortium member had almost finished his or her paper, so the thematic report should be sent in at the end of April, but we decided to not publish them before the final report. The night was also creative, since we had a Creative Kitchen activity during which we cooked dinner ourselves in restaurant l’Atelier des chefs.

Les Ateliers 2014
On Thursday afternoon we reached Les Ateliers 2014, an event organized by the cluster Quartier de la Création which aims to support exchanges between creative stakeholders via workshops and conferences. This year the selected topic was ‘Creative thinking’. We shared ECIA inputs with the Les Ateliers participants via a presentation of Carsten Schierenbeck and one by Rasmus Wiinstedt Tscherning.

Panels
Two panels had been organized to discuss and challenge ECIA recommendations with external experts.  The first panel discussion was handling the theme Support measures and toolbox for cultural and creative industries – How to help them grow?. The panel was formed by Tanja Mülhans, Myriam Camarero, Edgar Garcia, Pier Luigi Sacco and Anna Linton. The second discussion was related to Building an open ecosystem for cultural and creative industries – The case of cross-sectoral innovation and demand driven innovation and in the panel were Hélène Morteau, Boris Meggiorin, Maria Moebius and Anamaria Wills.

We also had an opportunity to meet the International Association of Francophone Mayors’ (AIMF) to better capitalize ECIA results in the francophone world. The PLP was also an opportunity to capitalize the results of Cross Innovation Project (INTERREG IV C) with a presentation given by Steve Harding and Nadine Barthel. More information on this project here www.cross-innovation.euWe had a networking lunch with them. That night we went to an exhibition called Expolaroid in which we saw the performance of the Swedish dancer Maria Moebius.

World Café
On Friday we organized a world café on four themes: “Spill-over”, “Business support”, “Access to finance” and “Dissemination”. On Spill-over we highlighted a problem of intermediaries and a necessary redefinition of point 2.2.2 about opportunities within public procurements (replace by equal systems). On business support we concluded that clusters can provide safety for CCI but also that better service should be provided. On Access to finance we stressed that it is necessary to improve access to financing tools and fight reluctance about crowd funding.

Finally, concerning dissemination, we wondered about asking for feedback by public authorities and other stakeholders and people: the definition of target groups (which specific messages?), commissioning an agency and the creation of videos, graphics, storytelling, website…

Now we are looking forward to our next meeting in the city of Tampere in June !
